+ Asian equities turned around and bounced overnight, with the standard strategy of "reverse whatever you were doing" being applied. The yen is weaker, commodities have stabilised. Of course, a 6% rally off a base of 'not very much' is still 'not very much'.
+ According to the Wall Street Journal, Barclays are seeking capital injections from two Russian banks, rather than sell shares to the British government. There is no indication on whether this quest has been successful.
+ Car companies continue to complain around the world. Nissan's CEO suggests the latest 5% move in the yen would sap competitiveness (though they seemed to survive the previous 15% appreciation). Credit rating agencies are downgrading car companies.
+ The absence of confidence around the world is paraded today. US consumer confidence is forecast at a 16 year low, and further weakness is expected from France, Germany and (via the retail sector) Italy and the UK. ECB and Bank of England speakers make the agenda.
