fitted with the German 'Cologne' V6 engine as distinct from the English Essex.
the essential differences being in weight & torque, the Essex being much heavier than the Cologne but with more torque. My Cologne, originally 2.8litre/150 BHP was bored & stroked to 3.1 litre/195 BHP. An equivalent Essex was 220 - 230 BHP with gas flowed heads & 300 deg.

Only with bigger and polished "cylinderheads-channels" and in use with a 296°camshaft and BMW 750i injection nozzles and a CSC-Exhaust the 2,8i produces 188BHP at 6700rpm.
So if you make the inlet and outlet channel bigger, and maybe in use with a better camshaft and a K&N Filter you could reach nearly 220BHP.
Partly correct. At 92.00mm bore and 68.00mm stroke, the 2.8 is excessively 'oversquare' anyway. The overbore was only done on the basis of 'every little belps'. It was the 72.00 stroker crank which was the key. It gave a lot more torque. Of course it had the 296 cam & HiPo heads as well but I loved the Essex engined Capri, but we ran an engine tuning business and as my son ran an Essex, I was obliged to use the Cologne (sadly) David
AES = Auto Engine Services. This was the name our family engineering business. At the time we were involved in the general repair and overhaul of the internal combustion engine. We also had a small high performance section, which specialised in tuning Ford V6 engines as fitted to the Capri. (Just like your Federal Capri)
Visit your local auto racing track, have a look round the paddock & talk to the racers. They'll point you in the right direction. Your National Club - the organisation recognised and approved by the FIA - will issue a licence. (In UK this is the Royal Automobile Club (RAC. I think your's may be the USAC?. They regulate all 'mainstream' racing, oversee things & approve formulae & issue licences.
hope this helps
Dave
Correct.
I always ran a stricly legal car. The rules stipulated that the car - inc. individual parts must be visually identical to the original. The rear end of the 2.8 was beam axle/leaf springs/tele. shocks. To be competitive springs & shocks were lowered and massively uprated. Equally if not more important was to take the 'slop' out by replacing all the rubber bushes with PTFE.
Hope this helps,
Dave
Thank's for you kind comments. Thid vid flatters to decieve! I started from the back with a 10 sec penalty. For once all the rods stayed put & the camera stayed on!
Your comment succinctly illustrates that while there can be personal ambition; egotism & superficiality in motorsport, the vast majority of club competitors only want to enjoy themselves and in doing so harm no one & give a great deal of pleasure to many.
I hope you enjoyed your racing as much as I did.
Dave
I hope to be out again this year ('08), following a broken crank last year :(
